.//phenethylamine is a solo trance project from Kit Carruthers. It is music you can listen to at a rave and still feel cultured. There's classical instruments, you see. It is an attempt to break trance, I break everything I touch. The instruments used are a synthesizer, a piano, two violins and a cello. The albums that have influenced this project are Hallucinogen's "Twisted," Hybrid's "Wide Angle," Astral Projection's "Trust In Trance," Carbon Based Lifeform's "World of Sleepers," Connect.Ohm's "9980," Aes Dana's "Season 5," Solar Fields' "Reflective Frequencies," Doof's "Let's Turn On," Juno Reactor's "Bible of Dreams," Infected Mushroom's "Classical Mushroom," Sasha's "Involver," VNV Nation's "Futureperfect," Murcof's "Remembranza," Boards of Canada's "Geogaddi" and Kashiwa Daisuke's "Program Music I."

.//phenethylamine is one of my most palatable projects. I don't get to take it as seriously as say, Offret or O Beautiful Death but fine I can be "Fun." Fine we can have "Fun." As long as we're still pretentious and high on ourselves.

"Wait a minute... What if we make psychill crescendo to psytrance!? And put classical instruments on it!"

The first album, "Sometimes I'd Feel Very Old, Like My Whole Life is Over, Like I'm Not Around no More." is very minimal. It is there to establish sound and structure. "We Can't Stop Here, This is Bat Country!" expands on this and gets a little more dramatic, a little more involved, a little more psychedelic, however it is basically restricted to the same structure. In "We Believe in Nothing, Lebowski. Nothing." I gently break this structure while at the same time incorporating a little of a more traditional psytrance structure. It is slightly more dramatic. "If You Think That There Is a Solution, You'll Die Here." is the final evolution of ever increasing dramatic, it is absolute sensory overload. These first four albums are amateur and done without access to real actual people with real actual classical instruments.

I... I called the track "rendering valve" when the term I was looking for was actually "reducing valve" and now it's already done and out there and the entire general public gets to see this horrible mistake. How... How could I let this happen? How can this be? Whatever will I do?

The deliriously happy baseline moment in "i love you too let's do molly" was not intentional. The intent was vaguely ironic but not exactly ironic happiness, I didn't realize we were going to deliriously happy. I had done a lot of different things to the synthesizer plugin and just found that they had all combined to become deliriously happy. "I see."
